When was the last time you contacted a new lead for your business? Did you call back to that guy you spoke to a month ago and said he would think about? Don't forget to follow up your prospect because you never know what the future brings.
I've seen often that business owners getting leads and even getting to talk to their prospects and then never contact them again.
This is a huge mistake because in the first case, the fact you got leads doesn't mean sales and you want sales.
In the second case, after talking to a prospect is very well possible that you receive a no for an answer or a somewhat evasive answer. If you don't contact then again, that's it! You won't make a sale for sure.
Let's start with leads. Once you get a lead you need to reach out to them, establish a line of communication so that you can relate, get to know each other and create a basic relationship that will allow you to propose the business. The fact that you got a lead means that person has an interest but it doesn't mean it is a sale. So you need to follow up.
Remember these statistics the next time you get a lead:
- Nowadays a person needs to see an add about 18x before they make a buy
- When you talk to people, on average it takes 4-6 exposures before they say yes
This means that you need to keep talking to people over and over. That's why we get email contacts and we email them, to follow up and keep the prospects knowing we exist and that we have value for them. That's why we should call them if they gave you a number or to text them if you find it difficult to get a proper time (especially if you get leads from different time zones and you're not sure how much the difference is).
In the second case, when you talk to people and they say no, remember this the next time, NO doesn't mean NO, it means not now. This is important and is the reason you need to follow up your prospect. Perhaps the day you spoke to them was a bad they for them, perhaps they were feeling insecure, or worried or they needed more time to think it over. But if you keep the contact in a gentle and professional (not pushy) way, you might be surprised down the road.
